Hi, we know some of you will be wondering if the earthquake affected us. We are fortunate that the earthquake was on the South Island, about 8 hours drive south of us and a 3 hour ferry ride from there...would be like a earthquake in southern Missouri from Green Bay as far as distance.
The earthquake was much worse this time versus the one they had in the same city (Christchurch) last September 4th, 2010. That one was a 7.1 magnitude quake, with a few injuries and no direct deaths from the quake. This time, even though the quake was not as strong at 6.2 magnitude, there are many more buildings completely destroyed, and the death toll is at least 65 with higher numbers expected. The search and rescue teams are strictly working on finding those trapped at this time.

Links to our favorite things in New Zealand
- Hot Water Beach!!! Gillie's recommended beach, on the South Pacific Ocean. Very very awesome!
- Waitomo Glowworm Caves...check out their glowing "poop" and mucous strand "fishing lines"! (Really!)
- Raglan, New Zealand--big on surfing, and our first stop in the campervan! (Jan 17 and 18th)
- Gillie's school in Tauranga, New Zealand. Tauranga Rudolf Steiner School
- More info on Waldorf-Steiner education, the types of teaching and classes and what the schools focus on. May be a more interesting link for parents!
- Info on Rudolf Steiner...the man who started the Steiner (or Waldorf) education model. Parents may find this link more interesting than kids do..
- Current time in New Zealand--we are 19 hours ahead of you! So...just subtract 5 hours from the time in Wisconsin, and add 1 day! (6pm Friday in WI is 1pm Saturday in NZ!)

Glad to hear you were unaffected. Chris just reminded us of the blog this week and Elise, Katie, and I are catching up. We'll check out the videos too. Glad to see you're having such a great experience. Futsal is going well, but would be better with Gillian here. We're starting indoor practices next week. Best Regards, Coach Jeff

We are excited that our smart board is here now (morgan)! Next time we skype you we are going to use it!
